Playgrounds for Schools | Typhoon Haiyan Response, Bantayan Island - Philippines

As part of its humanitarian response to Typhoon Haiyan/Yolanda in 2013, Caritas Switzerland rehabilitates seven schools in Northern Cebu. In addition to classrooms to study, children also need a place to let off steam safely during the breaks. The schools currently do not have playgrounds as the local communities cannot afford them. Therefore, Caritas Switzerland seeks to construct basic but flexible playgrounds for the five schools that have enough space to accommodate a volleyball field, some monkey bars and culverts (concrete tubes). The design of the playgrounds corresponds to the local standards and would be finalized in coordination with the school committees including the students, staff and representatives of the authorities. The simple design and robust materials facilitate maintenance of the infrastructure.
